public 'satellite' schools in rural areas in Morocco contain asbestos and are in need of renovation

The Green School is located in the rural village of Imloul, Morocco. The project concerns an enclosed site with multiple classrooms which contained asbestos and were severely damaged. The entire school grounds were redesigned, the buildings containing asbestos were removed and two new bio-ecological buildings were built by using local traditional techniques and materials. Following the community's vision, the project consists of a preschool, a library, a small kitchen and new sanitary facilities.

During the construction process, the project also focused on co-creation by exploring new aesthetics, typologies and details with the local inhabitants of the village. This approach resulted in a strong collaboration where different disciplines learnt from each other and worked together to achieve a common goal.
